Karen C. Gareis, Ph.D., is the Program Director of the Community, Families, and Work Program at Brandeis University’s Women’s Studies Research Center. She has been directing Dr. Rosalind Barnett’s research studies since receiving her Ph.D. in social psychology from Boston University in 1997. Current projects include two studies funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, one in its final year and one just beginning. The former is a study of the relationship between maternal day vs. evening work schedules and child and family outcomes; the latter is a study of how working parents of school-age children in Waltham coordinate their own schedules with their children’s school, after-school, and transportation schedules. Karen has conducted research on work-family issues, gender, and social support and has taught at Boston University and at Lesley University.
